Three hurt after vehicle crashes on Karioitahi Beach, near Auckland-Waikato border

Three people have been injured after a vehicle crashed on a beach near the border of the Auckland and Waikato regions.

Police were called to Karioitahi Beach, west of the town of Waiuku, about 5.30pm on Sunday.

Initial reports from the scene indicated four people were injured. However, St John Ambulance has since confirmed there were only three patients.

Two people had minor injuries. The third was in serious condition but improved to moderate condition by the time they were taken to Middlemore Hospital by Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

People are allowed to drive on Karioitahi Beach if they have a permit.
