Wellington police have laid 11 charges against high profile jailhouse lawyer Arthur Taylor

High profile jailhouse lawyer and ex-convict Arthur Taylor is facing a raft of new serious drugs charges.

Taylor, who is currently living in Dunedin, was informed by police on Monday of the new charges, which will be heard in the Dunedin District Court on December 17.

The charges, laid by Wellington police, include two counts of suppling Gamma-Butyrolactone,​ three counts of offering to supply Gamma-Butyrolactone, offering to supply methamphetamine, supplied methamphetamine, possessed methamphetamine for supply, conspired to supply methamphetamine and obtained by deception.

Taylor said he was sent the charges by police via email and was not arrested.

The offending is alleged to have occurred between February 1 and June 3 this year.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the charges had been laid and was unable to comment further as the matter is before the courts.

Previously, Taylor launched his own legal business from behind bars, and took several high profile cases against Corrections and the Crown. He also successfully prosecuted a jailhouse witness for perjury, not long before he was paroled in 2019.

Taylor has more than 150 convictions and spent 39 cumulative years behind bars for various offences ranging from burglary and car theft to kidnapping and several escapes from custody including an escape from Auckland Prison at Paremoremo in 1998.
