Critical, serious injuries in crashes in Ngaruawahia, Hamilton-to-Tauranga highway

A motorbike rider has suffered critical injuries in a collision with a car, near Ngaruawahia.

Details about the crash remain sketchy, however it happened about 9.15am at the intersection of Great South Rd and Havelock Rd, just south of the township.

The rider is understood to be a member of the Filthy Few gang. While the cause of the crash is yet to be determined, one of the vehicles was believed to have been turning in to Havelock Rd when it collided with the other travelling along Great South Rd.

The injured man was rushed by St John Ambulance to Waikato Hospital with what were described by police as “life-threatening injuries”.

Other members of the gang quickly arrived at the scene.

The road has a 60kph speed limit.

Meanwhile, a person has suffered moderate-to-serious injuries in a two-car crash on State Highway 29, near Karapiro.

Although details about that crash are also few, it happened about 8.55am, not far from the intersection known as the Tauranga turn-off and near the Red Barn wedding venue.

Five people were in the two cars involved.

Traffic management measures are in place, and motorists are being warned to avoid the area if possible.
