One person found dead, one critically injured in Pukekohe, south Auckland

A person is dead and another has been critically injured after an incident in Pukekohe, south Auckland.

A police spokesman confirmed a person was found at an address on McNally Rd about 9am Wednesday with injuries.
The person has been taken to Middlemore Hospital, he said.

“Subsequently, while making enquiries at the scene Police have located another person deceased at the address,” police said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
“We are now working to formally identify the person and notify their next of kin.”
A scene examination is underway and a scene guard will remain in place overnight, while a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
Police are treating the death as unexplained, the spokesman said.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, police placed a forensic tent over a car in the backyard of the address.
About 2.30pm, half a dozen detectives and forensic specialists in white suits entered the property.
About 2pm, police launched a drone over the property.
A police cordon is in place on the street and a large number of officers could be seen in the area. They were believed to have been there all day Tuesday.
Firefighters were also at the scene.
The police spokesman a scene examination is underway, and police will be speaking with people in the area.
Nina Smith, who lives next door, said a family, consisting of a man, a woman and five children, moved into the home around September 2020.
Smith said on Wednesday afternoon she had been assured by the police that none of the children were hurt.
She did not know the circumstances of what had transpired.
Dot Lawrence, who lives in a nearby unit, was also in the dark on what had transpired the previous night.
“Nobody knows what the heck’s going on.”

A separate incident in the area required the assistance of the St John Ambulance crew on Tuesday morning.
It was not related to McNally Rd incident.
A spokeswoman for St John said four ambulances, one incident manager, and a helicopter from Auckland responded to a fall on West St in Pukekohe at 10.06am.
An ambulance transported the patient in a serious condition to Bledisloe Park, where the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was waiting.
The patient was then taken by helicopter to Middlemore Hospital.
