At its peak, about two dozen fire trucks and up to 100 firefighters were at the scene.

Several buildings and numerous cars were engulfed in flames.

An officer of health from the Auckland Regional Public Health Service said she expects most people not to be affected by the smoke.

However, “if people are experiencing symptoms, such as changes in their breathing or irritation from the smoke, they should continue to stay inside with windows closed and consider seeking medical advice”, she said.

A JCP Car Parts worker said the cause of the blaze is unknown.

A Vector spokesman said power is back on for locals after the fire caused an outage on Sunday.

There have been no other reported outages following the incident.
