Kiwis have been urged to donate cash rather than goods, due to the difficulties in transporting supplies to the stricken islands.

Civil Defence warnings are in place as cyclone Cody is about to hit New Zealand, while in Tonga the underwater volcanic eruption and tsunami leaves islands without power and communication.
