Three injured after car plows into Glenfield, Auckland bus-stop

Three people including a school boy have been injured after crash at a bus stop in Glenfield, on Auckland's North Shore.

A car failed to stop at traffic lights and hit a group of pedestrians at 4.35pm on Glenfield Rd, outside the Glenfield McDonalds and the Westfield Mall. 

McDonalds worker Angeline Apen grabbed a first aid kit and rushed out to help when she heard the crash. She said that a car had ploughed into the bus stop, hitting two people and the back of a parked bus.

'I went to the boy who was injured - he was shaking and couldn't move his legs,' she said.

'He was patting his head, and when he took his hand away there was blood on it.'

Apen said the boy was able to walk by the time an ambulance arrived, but still 'seemed in shock'.

'I was in shock myself, but I did all that I could do to help. When I went back in to work I was still shaky.'

She said that 'loads of people ran out of the mall' to aid the injured pedestrians, and that traffic was stopped. By 6pm the road was back to normal again, she said.

Northern fire communications spokesman Paul Radden said fire crews worked with rescue equipment to free one person trapped in the car.

One of the injured people was taken to hospital in a serious condition, the other two had minor to moderate injuries.

A police spokesperson said that once at hospital, they were assessed as having 'minor to moderate injuries'.

They said that police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and that no-one had been charged or arrested yet.

While northbound lanes of Glen field Rd were closed after the crash, the road was cleared by 8pm.
