Ponsonby fatal shooting: Suspect found dead in or near Taupō

A man wanted over a central Auckland fatal shooting has been found dead near Taupō, police have confirmed.
Police had been searching for Hone Kay-Selwyn, 31, since Robert Horne was shot on Ponsonby Road on Sunday night.
Police are not aware of any connection between the two men.

Detective Inspector Chris Barry said the man being sought by police in relation to the Ponsonby Road shooting was found deceased on Tuesday in the Broadlands area.
Police had been searching for Hone Kay-Selwyn, 31, in connection to the shooting of Robert Horne on Ponsonby Road on Sunday night.
Barry said police investigators were travelling to the Taupō area on Tuesday afternoon to locate Kay-Selwyn, when they were notified of a man found dead at a rural address.
'The death is currently being treated as unexplained,“ Barry said.
An associate found the man, and the body is still there, he said.
'While a post mortem examination is yet to be completed, it is believed the deceased is the man sought by police in relation to the homicide investigation.'
He said police are not seeking anyone else in regards to the investigation, and confirmed that Kay-Selwyn is a member of the Killer Beez gang.
Police are not aware of any connection between the victim and the suspected shooter, Barry said.
'The victim and his associates, to the best of our knowledge, had no association to any criminal group.'
The firearm used in the Ponsonby Road shooting has not been found.
