Hone Kay-Selwyn, 31, fatally shot Robert Horne on Ponsonby Rd late on Sunday night.
After a nationwide manhunt that spanned two days, Kay-Selwyn was found dead by “an associate” at a rural property near Taupō.
On Thursday afternoon, police said that his death was “not being treated as suspicious” and had been referred to the Coroner.
Members of the Killer Beez gang, of which Kay-Selwyn had been a member of since he was 14, are expected to follow his body from Rotorua to Auckland, police said.
Police will escort the convoy to Auckland, including deploying an air support unit.
“We are aware that gang members had earlier travelled south to Rotorua, and we will be monitoring their movements back to the Auckland region,” a police spokesperson said.
Motorists concerned about any activity they see are asked to report it to police.
