New name and logo for Stuff’s 6pm TV bulletin revealed
Monday, 27 May 2024
The name and logo of the new Stuff-produced 6pm bulletin has been announced.
The bulletin will be called ThreeNews, and the logo will leverage the current Three logo, bringing together Three’s digital and free-to-air assets under one look and feel.
In April, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) confirmed the closure of its New Zealand newsroom, the Newshub website and the end of the 6pm and AM TV news bulletins on channel Three.
Days later, Stuff Group and WBD announced an agreement for Stuff to provide a daily news bulletin to WBD, which will begin on Saturday July 6, the day after the final Newshub bulletin airs.
Juliet Peterson, WBD Vice President, Head of Networks ANZ said she was excited to see further progress on the new bulletin.
“Before we had Newshub we had 3 News, we felt that the name ThreeNews was both a nod to our storied history, but also different enough to show that this isn’t a continuation of our older news offering but an evolution.
“Stuff isn’t just reproducing what we’ve always had. It’s going to be an exciting new bulletin while still retaining Three’s unique touch and approach - having Sam Hayes remain as the face and lead of ThreeNews, with reporting from so many fantastic former-Newshub journalists alongside Stuff’s large multimedia team, this new bulletin is going to be superb, I can feel it.
“That said, this name is also an acknowledgement of all the incredible people who have worked for Three from when it was 3 National News, to 3 News, then Newshub, and now ThreeNews.
Many top Newshub journalists and broadcast experts have been hired to join the Stuff project.
Current Newshub presenter Samantha Hayes has been confirmed in a new, solo role for the 6pm show.
Journalists including Jenna Lynch, Laura Tupou, Ollie Ritchie, Juliet Speedy, Zane Small and Heather Keats will join Stuff, as well as award-winning broadcast journalist Lisette Reymer.
Leading the team is one of the country’s most experienced broadcast producers, Claire Watson, who has been appointed 6pm’s executive producer, while Steve Gore-Smith, currently Newshub’s Senior Manager of Operations, will become Stuff’s Director of Video Operations and Technology.
Other hires include visual journalist Simon Morrow, supervising producers Angus Gillies and Paul Mayow, Tom Bartlett as Chief of Staff - Video and Monique Manson as Social content coordinator.
Managing Director of Stuff Digital Nadia Tolich said the new brand reflected the lively and gutsy news culture that Stuff and Newshub shared and the name reflected how integral the 6pm news was to Three and ThreeNow.
“We are producing something that will be both familiar and fresh, a great marriage of the Three brand and Stuff’s live and lively news ethos,” she said.
“Our teams have worked together on the look and feel of the show, the set and the brand, bringing together a cohesive new bulletin that we can’t wait to share with the rest of Aotearoa.”
The bulletin will broadcast for an hour Monday to Friday on channel three with a 30-minute programme on the weekend from July 6.
