Lotto’s $44 million jackpot scooped by a single ticket

Saturday, 10 August 2024

If tonight's powerball prize goes to a single ticket holder, they will take the number one spot.

Lotto’s huge $44 million jackpot has been scooped by a single lucky player.

The numbers for the record-breaking $44 million prize were 24,17, 25, 30, 6, and 3. The bonus number was 36 and the Powerball number was 1.

Lotto revealed around 9pm that there was only one ticket that had all the correct numbers, plus the Powerball, meaning the top prize won’t be shared with other punters.

The winner also picks up the $1 million Lotto prize, matching the record for the largest prize in New Zealand Lotto history, held by an Auckland couple who won $44.06 million in 2016.

Saturday’s win matches the largest prize won by a single player in NZ Lotto history.

No doubt there will be people across New Zealand wondering who the owner of the winning ticket is and whether it was bought by an individual, a family, or a syndicate.

But for whoever the owners of the ticket are, this has been a life-changing event for them, Lotto head of communications Lucy Fullarton said.

“The best thing the winner can do is call Lotto NZ’s customer support team…We will then walk them through how to claim their prize and pass on the many pieces of valuable advice our previous big winners have shared with us.”

In June, seven people shared a $50 million top prize, each pocketing $7.2 million.
