Live: PM Christopher Luxon faces tough questions in the House after historic hīkoi

Wednesday, 20 November 2024

Crowds spilled out around Parliament as a hikoi protesting David Seymour's Treaty Principles Bill reached Wellington, with thousands of people making their voices heard loud and clear. Jenna Lynch reports.

Convoys of protesters travelled from Northland to Wellington, as well as up from the South Island, to protest a bill that seeks to redefine the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Hīkoi mō te Tiriti (March for the Treaty of Waitangi) arrived at Parliament on Tuesday.

The hīkoi is aligned with Te Pāti Māori.

The Treaty Principles Bill was introduced to Parliament last week and could have ramifications on the partnership between the Crown and Māori.

Last Wednesday the hīkoi traversed the Auckland Harbour Bridge and through the city.
