RNZ’s 6pm bulletin did not make it to air on Tuesday night.

A spokesperson said a “technical issue” at the public broadcaster’s Christchurch studio meant the 6pm bulletin did not play as planned.

“Wallace Chapman did cover the main stories of the day, including today’s earthquake and the activity at Whakaari/White Island on The Panel shortly after 6pm and the headlines went out as expected at 6.30pm,” they said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience.”

The technical issue was rectified and the 7pm bulletin ran as scheduled, the spokesperson said.

An earlier version of this story said the 6pm bulletin did not play in the South Island. It did not play nationwide. (Amended 7.57pm, March 3)
