Adele, 69, was last seen leaving Christchurch’s Eastgate Mall about 1pm on June 15.

Residents are being urged to check their backyards and sheds for a missing Christchurch woman as concerns mount for her welfare.

Police have narrowed their search for 69-year-old Adele to the suburb of Burwood, following a possible sighting.

Adele, who usually lives in Shirley, has been missing since she was seen leaving Eastgate Mall at about 1pm on June 15. She is described as having a thin build with grey hair.

Detective Sergeant Luke Vaughan said police believed Adele was seen in the area of New Brighton Rd and Cresswell Ave on the evening of June 15.

“We are now urging Burwood residents to please check their properties and notify Police of anything unusual, especially if you are in the New Brighton Road, Cresswell Avenue, and Gayhurst Road areas,” Vaughan said.

“If you have any backyards, sheds, sleepouts, or anything where a person could seek shelter, please take a look.”

Police say there will be a reasonable police presence in the area carrying out door knocks and enquires, as well as Police and LandSAR conducting searches in the red zone area.

Police say Adele
Police say Adele's family and loved ones are deeply anxious to find her.

When last seen, Adele was wearing a black puffer jacket over a red top and blue jeans. Police noted in earlier reports that she may have been wearing a red puffer jacket, and could have changed her clothes since she was last seen.

Police are also asking anyone with CCTV cameras facing the street to review their footage from June 15.

Vaughan said Adele's family and loved ones are deeply anxious to find her.

“Any information, no matter how small, may be the key to finding Adele.”

Anyone who sees Adele is asked to contact police immediately on 111, quoting the reference number 260618/2259.
