Magnitude 4.8 quake felt by hundreds

More than 300 people reported feeling a moderate earthquake that struck near Kaikōura in the early hours of Monday morning.

The 4.8 magnitude quake hit 25km south-west of the town at 4.31am, at a depth of 25km.

The quake produced moderate shaking, GeoNet reported.
