Person seriously injured after truck rolls, causing delays on Otago highway

A person is believed seriously injured after a truck rolled and blocked a section of State Highway 1 in Otago.
Emergency services were called to the crash on Herbert-Hampden Rd (SH1), just south of the small North Otago township of Herbert, at 8.06am on Wednesday.
A police spokeswoman said it was understood a trailer being towed by a truck had rolled, seriously injuring the driver.
The truck was believed to be a stock transport truck, but no animals were being moved at the time of the crash, she said.

A rescue helicopter from Dunedin flew the person who was seriously injured to Dunedin Hospital, St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman Simon Lyford said three crews from Oamaru, Weston and Hampton were sent to the scene.
The truck involved was a B Train truck-trailer combination, but he was unsure what it was carrying.
No rescues were needed, but power lines had been knocked down in the crash and at least half the road was blocked, Lyford said.
A Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency spokeswoman said the section of SH1 just north of Breakneck Rd was initially closed but reopened with temporary traffic lights about 9.35am.
The road had fully reopened by 4.50pm.
