You Pick A Side: Should mobile phones be banned at gigs?

Stuff’s weekly series dives into the everyday topics that get people talking.
Each week, we’ll put up a simple question, make the case for both sides, and let you decide.

So … pick a side.
Yes — ban them
A concert is meant to be experienced, not viewed through a screen. Few things are more frustrating than finally seeing your favourite artist, only to spend the entire night staring at the back of someone else's phone. Phone-free gigs encourage people to be present, sing badly, dance awkwardly and actually enjoy the moment. Plus, nobody has to spend the night peering around a forest of glowing rectangles just to catch a glimpse of the stage.
No — let people film
For many fans, snapping photos and recording a favourite song is part of the experience. Concert tickets aren't cheap, and people want a souvenir to remember the night. Phones also make it easier to coordinate with friends, share the excitement online and, let's be honest, prove you were there. As long as someone isn't filming every second, a few clips and selfies seem like a pretty harmless part of modern gig-going.
