Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell eye a huge fourth day of the first cricket test after a positive finish to Saturday kept their glimmer of hope alive.

The pair will resume on 111-3 at the Basin Reserve as the Black Caps pursue 369 to beat Australia.

The MetService forecast for Wellington on Sunday is encouraging, with mainly fine weather and a maximum of 22C predicted, with a chance of morning and evening showers.
