NBA star Steven Adams becomes latest Auckland FC investor

NBA star Steven Adams has become the latest investor in A-Leagues newcomers Auckland FC.

The Houston Rockets centre joins American billionaire Bill Foley, the majority owner; Anna Mowbray and Ali Williams, and former All Whites Tim Brown, Noah Hickey and Winston Reid.

In a statement, Foley said: “I am delighted to welcome Steven to our ownership group, joining our global network of professional athletes and successful business owners in creating New Zealand’s most exciting sports team.

“He brings wide-ranging experience in business and sport, and a global perspective from his NBA experience.”

Adams was introduced to Auckland FC by All Birds founder Brown.

He said in a statement: “I’m excited about the potential of what we can accomplish for young people in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, about the grassroots and community-based approach.”

Auckland FC chief executive Nick Becker said: “Steven is a proud kiwi who has used global sporting pathways to reach the pinnacle of his sport.

“Our hope is Auckland FC can provide similar opportunities for young boys and girls in NZ.

“Having someone of Steven’s calibre and experience join the team is a massive boost for the whole club and a significant marker in AFC’s journey.”

Auckland FC begin their inaugural A-League Men campaign next Saturday at their Mt Smart Stadium home against Brisbane Roar (kickoff 5pm).
