Amy du Plessis has been farewelled by her Black Ferns team-mates after an injury shattered her Rugby World Cup dream.

She was honoured with a short speech, hugs, some tears and a powerful haka from the team.

The women’s rugby team were farewelling the midfielder after her World Cup campaign was cut short, with a shoulder injury she suffered during the opening match.

'We absoliutely love you.' The Back Ferns console injured midfielder Amy du Plessis.

It ruled her out for the remainder of the tournament.

Chiefs Manawa and Counties Manukau winger Mererangi Paul has joined the squad as her injury replacement.

Du Plessis will remain in England, alongside her whanau, to support the team for the rest of the competition.

The reigning champs Black Ferns will meet Canada in the semi finals at Ashton Gate in Bristol on Saturday at 6am NZT.
