All Blacks midfielder Jordie Barrett ruled out for rest of northern tour

All Blacks midfielder Jordie Barrett has been ruled out for the rest of their northern tour with injuries he sustained in their opening win against Ireland in Chicago.
The All Blacks said on Wednesday (NZ time) that Barrett suffered a high ankle injury and a minor knee injury and was heading home.
Barrett, 28, won’t be available for their test against Scotland in Edinburgh on Sunday (NZ time) or their following tour fixtures against England and Wales.
The 78-test star went down in the first half of last weekend’s 26-13 victory against Ireland and was replaced by Leicester Fainga’anuku.
Barrett’s elder brother Scott, the All Blacks captain, was also injured but remains on the tour. He will miss the Scottish test at Murrayfield after needing a dozen stitches for a painful gash below his knee.
Jordie’s absence means coach Scott Robertson is likely to start Quinn Tupaea at second five-eighth and Fainga’anuku at centre against Scotland. They were paired together in Chicago.
The All Blacks are well covered for midfielders. Billy Proctor has been operating at centre throughout the season and Rieko Ioane, while switched back to the wing in test rugby, can also play there, as well as Anton Lienert-Brown.
Roberston might nonetheless be tempted to add cover from Jamie Joseph’s All Blacks XV squad touring England and France. Their midfielders include capped All Blacks David Havili, Braydon Ennor and Dallas McLeod, as well as the Chiefs’ Daniel Rona.
Barrett, a regular at second-five, won’t play for the All Blacks again this year.
He will be targeting his comeback for February with the Hurricanes in Super Rugby Pacific.
