South Island United snatch vital Oceania Pro League win over 10-man Bula FC in stoppage time
Wednesday, 6 May 2026
Ryan Feutz was the stoppage-time hero as South Island United broke down 10-man Bula FC with less than two minutes to spare to claim a vital 1-0 win.
The Fijians were reduced to 10 men late in the first half of the Oceania Pro League Leaders group match at Go Media Stadium, when Setareki Hughes was sent off for a dangerous tackle.
Feutz first had a long-range rocket tipped onto the crossbar by Bula goalkeeper Didier Desprez with 11 minutes of normal time remaining.
He was then able to get a free header at the end of a cross from left back Lewis Partridge to put his side in front in the third of five added minutes.
This match shaped as an effective decider in the battle to avoid finishing fourth in the Leaders group and having to play against the top Challengers team.
How the Pro League finals work
The Oceania Pro League is back in Auckland this month – and set to crown its first winner on May 24.
Auckland FC, South Melbourne FC, Bula FC and South Island United have qualified for the top-four Leaders group.
Solomon Kings, Tahiti United, Vanuatu United and PNG Hekari FC will comprise the bottom-four Challengers group.
Points have been reset after the double round-robin, which was played in Auckland, Port Moresby, Melbourne, Honiara, Ba and Suva over the past four months.
Leaders group fixtures will be played at Go Media Stadium on May 6 and Eden Park on May 9 and 12, while Challengers group fixtures will be played at Eden Park on May 7 and Go Media Stadium on May 10 and 13.
The top three Leaders group teams will advance directly to the semifinals at Go Media Stadium on May 20
The fourth-placed team will play the top team from the Challengers group in a playoff at Go Media Stadium on May 17.
Whoever emerges triumphant from the grand final at Eden Park will qualify for this year’s edition of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
