South Melbourne FC have beaten Auckland FC 2-1 – their first win in the matchup at the third time of trying in the Oceania Pro League

A thumping header from Jacob Eliopoulos at a Jordon Lampard corner gave South Melbourne the lead in the 21st minute on Wednesday at Go Media Stadium.

Sebastian Pasquali then doubled their lead from the edge of the box just two minutes later, before Zac Zoricich pulled a goal back for Auckland just before halftime.

There was no further scoring action in the second half, as South Melbourne finally got a win in the head-to-head matchup that is a good chance to be seen again in the final later this month.

The two teams at the head of the Pro League pack traded late goals in a 1-1 draw in Melbourne in February, while Auckland won 2-1 in Fiji last month, on a night where South Melbourne were missing several key figures.
