Black Caps all-rounder Mitchell Santner has been ruled out of next month’s first test against England at Lord’s because of an injury to his left shoulder.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed Santner had suffered a grade three AC joint injury that would keep him sidelined for at least one month.

The 34-year-old suffered it while fielding for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League and returned to New Zealand to see a specialist.

He will also be unavailable for the one-off test against Ireland that starts in Belfast on May 26.

NZC said he could return for the second and third tests against England, but that would be evaluated at a later date.

The England series begins in London on June 4. The Black Caps squad will be named in the coming days.
