The club secured the championship in just its second season

Thousands of fans turned out in central Auckland on Sunday as Auckland FC took their A-League trophy through the city in a celebration of the club’s historic title win.

Players and staff rode aboard an open-top double-decker bus from Aotea Square down Queen Street before arriving at Takutai Square in Britomart, where crowds gathered to cheer on the newly crowned champions.

The parade came less than 24 hours after Auckland FC defeated Sydney FC 1-0 in front of more than 28,000 fans at Go Media Stadium to secure the title in just the club’s second season.

Fans lined the streets chanting and taking photos as the team shared the trophy with supporters during the midday celebrations.

Formal proceedings at Takutai Square included speeches from coach Steve Corica, chief executive Nick Becker, players and Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown, with supporters invited to meet the team and celebrate the club’s rapid rise.
