Yasin Ayari scores brilliant brace as Sweden romps past Tunisia 5-1 at World Cup

Monday, 15 June 2026

Sweden kick-started their FIFA World Cup campaign with a decisive 5-1 win over Tunisia in a Group F encounter at Estadio Monterrey.

Yasin Ayari scored Sweden’s first and final goal, with Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyökeres and Mattias Svanberg also getting on the scoresheet.

Omar Rekik grabbed Tunisia’s goal, pulling the game back to 2-1 before halftime.

The victory lifts Sweden to the top of their group, following the Netherlands and Japan playing out a 2-2 draw earlier in the day at Arlington, Texas.

Ayari, the 22-year-old midfielder who plays for English club Brighton, rifled in a fantastic opening goal after seven minutes, but opted not to celebrate against the team he could've represented at international level.

Liverpool forward Isak added a second after a brilliant run down the wing, cutting inside and seeing his shot sneak past the goalkeeper.

Tunisia halved the deficit just before the interval, but the Africa side would be no match on the night.

Viktor Gyokeres restored the two-goal advantage, before Mattias Svanberg scored just 18 seconds after coming on as a substitute to put the game beyond doubt.

Ayari added a fifth in stoppage time, smashing home his second goal from outside the box.
