Jordan eliminated from the Fifa World Cup after Algeria comes from behind to win 2-1

Tuesday, 23 June 2026

Algeria had to come from behind to beat Jordan 2-1, a result that keeps the African side’s hopes of reaching the World Cup last 32 alive.

Jordan's Nizar Al Rashdan was on hand to smash in the opening goal after 36 minutes after a ball into the box fell nicely for him.

Algeria equalised through a leaping header from substitute Nadhir Benbouali on 68 minutes.

The African side completed the turnaround from a corner after the initial delivery was knocked down and Amine Gouiri turned it in from close range.

The result eliminates Jordan, who play Argentina next, from the tournament. Meanwhile, Algeria takes on Austria in a game that will decide who advances to the knockout rounds as the second-place team behind Argentina in Group J.
