'Investment Fiji is proud to celebrate 50 years of the success of Fijian products globally through connecting international buyers with premium Fijian brands,' said Peter Rudd, trade manager of the Auckland-based Fiji Trade Commission.

'After 50 years of independence, Fiji is very proud to be New Zealand's 20th largest trading partner worldwide and the largest in the Pacific.'

'Fiji is one of New Zealand's top three overseas suppliers for vegetables with more fresh or chilled vegetables being imported to New Zealand from Fiji than any other overseas country in 2019,' Rudd said.

'In this space of primary industries, Fiji exported over $15 million to New Zealand overall in 2019.'

Rudd said Fiji's quick actions have been successful in containing the spread of Covid-19, making it an attractive option for investors.

'Due to Covid-19, more and more companies are looking to diversify where they manufacture or grow their goods and Fiji is an attractive looking destination right now due to their fast actions to contain the virus and the elimination of community transmission allowing for as close to business as normal as possible.

'I would urge any importer to have a look at Fiji's Global Trade e-Expo to see what the country can offer,' Rudd said.

Two-way trade in goods and services between New Zealand and Fiji has already surpassed $1 billion, the New Zealand Fiji Business Council recently said.

This makes Fiji one of New Zealand’s top 20 trading partners internationally.

NZFBC president Chandar Sen has said they were keen to help grow the trading relationship to $2bn by 2025.
