Tuesday, 4 June 2024
Fancy indulging in sauvignon-blanc steamed tuatua?
Or battering your own fish and chips on a charter boat in the Marlborough Sounds, minutes after landing the catch yourself?
If you want to discover some of the best foodie spots in New Zealand, then take a look at the new culinary series, Sachie’s Kitchen, by renowned chef and food writer Sachie Nomura.
The Japanese-born Kiwi-raised personality runs Sachie’s Kitchen cooking school in Auckland, and is off on a culinary tour around New Zealand, inspired by local produce from the regions.
Over the next eight weeks, a new episode will be released here on Stuff Travel, taking you to a new region each episode.
In this first episode, Nomura heads to the Marlborough Sounds, meeting the people behind some of the region’s best-loved food and wine producers. Heartwarming and affirming, the series is more than just the food but also about the people and their stories of how they came be to be where they are today.
Nomura openly shares her love not just for the cuisine but also for the country she now calls home.
You’ll see her feast on merino lamb rack from Middlehurst High Country sheep station, enjoy shellfish steamed in wine from Te Pa Wines, sizzle some crispy churros at La Ruca and make the freshest fish and chips while out on the water with Katabatic Charters.
You can also find her recipes inspired by her road trip, published each week on Stuff.
Whether it’s the Marlborough Sounds, Rotorua or the Coromandel, Sachie’s Kitchen will inspire you to think beyond traditional foodie regions of the world and celebrate what’s here at home.
A word for the wise - make sure you have some snacks on hand while watching the episode as the close-up imagery of freshly cooked meals will have your tastebuds tingling, all set amongst New Zealand’s finest regional spots.
Watch the first episode of Sachie’s Kitchen at the top of this story and tune in every Tuesday for a new episode.
