A new viral social media trend is taking getting bored on a plane to a new level.

Think of the most boring long-haul flight you’ve ever experienced.

As hard as it was, you probably had something to help you get through it: a classic movie, a TV series, a book or something to eat and drink.

A new viral flight trend dubbed ‘raw dogging’ allows for none of these options.

Instead, some social media users are making the self-inflicted choice to ‘raw dog’ their flights. This involves just staring at the in-flight map, out the window or the back of a seat for an entire flight. And no, sleeping is not allowed.

Stuff’s daily news podcast, Newsable, explained the trend, if there’s a point to it and why it’s gone viral.

Newsable host Imogen Wells shared details of a very long flight an Australian musician ‘raw dogged’ and the massive number he managed to count to in his head by the end of it.

Wells asked Newsable listeners who had ‘raw dogged’ a flight to share what it was like and how long the flight was. Email your experiences to imogen@newsable.co.nz.
