Qantas lounge at Auckland Airport to close until 2026 for renovations
Tuesday, 25 March 2025
Qantas is closing its lounge at Auckland International Airport while it undergoes an expansion.
Construction of the new Auckland International Lounge will start on April 23 to redevelop the existing lounge space and expand into the adjacent area. It will create room for more than 100 extra seats and ensure a shorter timeline for the build.
The new lounge, when it opens, will offer customers a wider selection of premium dining options before they fly, with space for both a la carte and buffet dining, complemented by a bar stocked with local New Zealand wines.
Additional shower suites and dedicated space to work with USB and charging stations for long-haul travellers will be installed, building on the success of the Qantas’s direct Auckland-New York service.
During construction, eligible customers will be reaccommodated. The Auckland International Lounge is expected to reopen in early 2026.
The Sydney International Business Lounge will also be under construction from the end of March and will be phased over the next two years.
The first stage of the multimillion-dollar upgrade to the lounge, which is one of the busiest in the Qantas network, will involve a complete redevelopment of the surrounding space, increasing the lounge’s footprint by 35%.
A show kitchen will serve up a new signature dining experience with plated menu options and customers will also be able to relax at a hosted full-service bar with a fresh juice or cocktail before take-off.
The new-look and expanded Sydney International Business Lounge is expected to welcome customers ahead of the airline’s world-first ultra long-haul Project Sunrise flights to London and New York.
Qantas chief customer and digital officer Catriona Larritt said the revamped Auckland International and Sydney Business Lounge will provide customers with an improved space to relax ahead of their flight.
“Sydney and Auckland are key hubs on our international network and by expanding and rebuilding these lounges from the ground up they will deliver a far superior preflight experience for our customers and Frequent Flyers.
“The design of the new lounges not only draws on what is unique to each destination but aligns with the broader upgrades happening across our network as we continue to invest in our award-winning global lounges.”
The Sydney and Auckland lounge construction follows Qantas’ investment into its regional lounge network with seven lounges across Australia set to be upgraded in the next 12 months.
