AJ Hackett opens bungy and tourism centre in Singapore

Tourism pioneer AJ Hackett has opened a major tourism venture on Singapore's Sentosa Island.

The development includes a 47-metre bungy jump, two giant swings, a vertical skywalk and a skybridge vertigo experience, as well as a restaurant and bar in a purpose-built tower and cost about $13.9 million.

It was officially opened by the New Zealand High Commissioner, His Excellency Dr Jonathan Edward Austin on Thursday.

AJ Hackett International founder and chief executive officer AJ Hackett said it had taken more than six years to complete the project.

The opening ceremony featured a traditional Chinese lion dance with choreographed audio-visual bungy jumping, giant swing and vertical skywalk exhibitions.

Hackett said he was happy to be open and able to give Singapore locals and tourists the experience of their life

'This project has been one of the more challenging sites we have built but the end result is something very special.'

General managers from New Zealand, Australia, Macau, France, Indonesia and Russian AJ Hackett sites were flown in join the celebrations.

The company is also spearheading bungy and adventure tourism projects in China and Russia as part of a multimillion dollar international expansion.

This year marks the 30th anniversary since Hackett introduced the world to commercial bungy jumping by sensationally leaping off the Eiffel Tower in 1987.
