Whakaari/White Island: GeoNet resumes camera feed at volcano island

Tuesday, 14 January 2020

More than a month since the deadly Whakaari/White Island volcano eruption, GeoNet is resuming the island camera feed to its website

At 2.11pm on December 9, Whakaari/White Island erupted when nearly 50 people were on it. The camera feed broke in the eruption and was not restored to the web while the emergency response was carried out.

'We thought it important to let you know that today we have returned the volcano cameras feed to our website,' GeoNet said on Twitter

GeoNet, which monitors geological hazards in New Zealand, announced on Tuesday the cameras were resuming their web feed.

'Our thoughts continue to be with all impacted by the eruption last month at Whakaari/White Island,' the organisation said in a social media post.
