Articulate Episode 20: Emma Hercus
Wednesday, 10 June 2026
What actually happens during the process of creation?
In this week’s episode of Articulate, painter Emma Hercus joins me for a conversation about instinct, technique, experimentation and surrender.
Based in Plimmerton north of Wellington, and completing her master’s degree through Whitecliffe, Emma reflects on how meaning emerges through making, and how landscape and memory shape her visual language.
The interview also covers authenticity in art, the physical act of painting, and what could be lost as AI-generated imagery becomes more common.
What is Articulate?
