Dine with me: Dame Miranda Harcourt’s Wellington hospo favourites
Saturday, 15 June 2024
Wellington’s eateries are doing it tough so The Post is launching a new series through winter to throw our support behind them. Each week we’ll ask a Wellingtonian where we’re likely to spot them eating. This week, Dame Miranda Harcourt weighs in on where she takes guests to wow them.
Where’s the best coffee in Wellington? (and what's your order? with or without a pastry?)
If I can make the trip from Houghton Bay to Bongusto in Miramar, that is my favourite coffee. Double shot flat white with oat milk. Roberto uses Good Fortune coffee with a non-acidic, nutty flavour. No pastry for me, but if it is lunchtime, maybe a slice of potato and truffle pizza?
Your favourite dish at a Wellington eatery/restaurant?
We like to eat local. Margot in Newtown has wonderful vegetarian mezze dishes. Cicio Cacio is a staple, love the vibe there. And after a long day rehearsing, Araucaria in Berhampore do great pizza and delicious salads to take away or eat-in.
Finally, where you'd take an out-of-towner to wow them.
We always take out-of-towners to Queen Sally’s Diamond Deli on Queen’s Drive, Lyall Bay which is so quintessentially Wellington. The food is divine and if it is busy you can just wander across the road to the beach with your unique and delicious item.
