Leak covers major Wellington road after water main bursts

Saturday, 22 June 2024

a leak flowing from what appears to be a storm water drain has caused water to cover the north bound lane of Jervois Quay.

A leak has caused “substantial” amount of surface water to flood a road near the Michael Fowler Centre.

One of Jervois Quay’s north-bound lanes has been covered with water, stretching from close to the Taranaki St intersection to almost the City to Sea bridge.

A Wellington Water spokesperson confirmed the source of the water was a burst 150mm water main outside 115 Jervois Quay, which caused “substantial” flooding.

They said it appeared the only building affected was 115 Jervois Quay, but the Michael Folwer Centre was being checked to see if water was supplied there.

The building’s water service was estimated to be interrupted for at least six hours, with Wellington Water waiting for traffic control so they could excavate the water main.

“Further updates will be provided once the crew have commenced the repair. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for further information.”
