A Johnsonville burger joint became a world record holder on Saturday.

Wilson Barbecue in Johnsonville broke the world record for most amount of burgers sold in a day, selling 6336 burgers by 9pm Saturday.

This was 123 more than the previous world record, which was set by YouTuber Mr Beast in 2022.

Owners Casey and Blair Wilson said they were exhausted after the exciting day, but were “so grateful” that Wellington had showed up to support them.

The couple had been repeatedly told they were “crazy” and wouldn’t make the record, so were relieved it had happened.

WELLFed Community Garden in Porirua is a finalist in the Ryman Healthcare Gardener of the Year 2023.

The restaurant started at 6am, working for the following 15 hours until 9pm at night. They needed to make about eight burgers a minute to break the record.

The event was in support of the Porirua charity WELLfed, with 10% of the profits donated to the charity, which teaches adults how to cook and other life-skills.
