16 new electric buses to join Metlink fleet

Sixteen new zero-emission buses are being introduced to the Metlink fleet, bringing core routes like the number 4 service closer to becoming fully electric.
The new buses, which will replace 10 older diesel models that were introduced temporarily, will mean a quarter of the Metlink fleet will be electric.
“The aim is for all 16 buses to be in service by the end of April, making a noticeable difference to noise and pollution,,” said Greater Wellington transport chair Thomas Nash.
The introduction of the new buses means routes such as the number 4, one of the busiest Metlink services, will be almost completely electric.
A third of the kilometres travelled by Metlink buses are now powered by electricity and this has been a major factor in the improvement in air quality on central city streets, Nash said.
