Bluebridge Cook Strait ferry the Connemara is being helped to anchorage by tug boats off Picton after a mechanical issue on Monday morning.

StraitNZ spokesperson WIll Dady said engineers were working to repair a mechanical issue discovered while the Connemara was berthed in Picton overnight.

“Tugs towed the ship temporarily off the berth while repairs continued, allowing the Livia to berth.”

Two sailings were cancelled, he said.

“We are working to get the ship up and running again as soon as possible and apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.'

Marlborough harbour master Jake Oliver confirmed there was an issue with the ship. It was being helped by two tug boats to anchorage off Picton shortly after 8am on Monday.

Bluebridge’s other vessel, the Livia, was slowing down on the trip through the Marlborough Sounds to leave room for its sister ship.

Bluebridge has been asked for details including the nature of the issue.
