Former Prime Minister Dame Jacinda Ardern is selling her central Auckland home after relocating to Sydney.

Ardern and her husband, Clarke Gayford, bought the four-bedroom Sandringham property in 2018 for $1.74 million.

Its CV is now $2.3m but property estimates on One Roof now expect it to sell for $2.21m. The Cambourne Rd property will go to auction on July 7.

But the home’s famous previous occupants are not mentioned in the property listing.

In the Ray White listing, the 643sqm property with two bathrooms and three carparks is described as a “timeless 1930s bungalow”.

“Step inside, and the home unfolds to tell a beautiful story of evolution. A modern extension seamlessly bridges the gap between eras, transforming the traditional footprint into an airy, high-stud haven that frames green garden views through soaring windows.”

It says the home has a clever layout that “offers a superb balance of togetherness and quiet retreat across four bedrooms and multiple living spaces”.

“French doors open from the kitchen and dining area onto a sheltered central deck perfect for the daily rhythm of family life, while the main living room slides completely open to a north-facing outdoor area.

“This private, fully fenced backyard is an oasis of mature greenery, complete with a third patio next to a solid concrete-block garden studio that is ready for hobbies or storage.”

Ardern and Clarke moved to Sydney, with their daughter Neve, earlier this year.

The family settled in the city’s Northern Beaches - causing a few headlines when the former prime minister was spotted catching the bus - after living in the United States while Ardern taught at Harvard University.

“The family has been travelling for a few years now. For the moment they’re basing themselves out of Australia,” Ardern’s office said in a statement at the time.

“They have work there, and it brings the added bonus of more time back home in New Zealand.”

The 45-year-old has since said that it was a “hard no” to returning to politics and that she has felt welcomed to Sydney and her suburb.

Ardrn told Australia’s Today show that moving across the ditch had felt 'surprisingly familiar'.

A spokesperson for Ardern declined to comment.
