A new poll shows a dip in support for the Labour and National party leaders, and no big uptick in support for the coalition Government following Budget 2026.

The new Taxpayers’ Union-Curia poll surveyed 1000 people between June 4-8.

It found Labour was the highest polling party on 32.2% - up 0.3 when compared to the same poll a month prior - while National was on 30.1%, up 0.1.

Of all the parties the Greens saw the biggest boost when compared to the same poll released in May - up 1.8% to 11.5% - with NZ First on 11.4% (down 0.3), ACT on 7.8% (up 1.3) and Te Pāti Māori on 3.1%, down a percentage point.

Translated to Parliament, Labour would get 40 seats, National would have 38, the Greens would have 14, NZ First would get 14, ACT would get 10 and Te Pāti Māori would have 4.

That would leave the centre right bloc with 62, just enough to form a government, while the centre left bloc would be on 58.

The poll’s margin of error was 3.1%.

In the preferred prime minister rankings Christopher Luxon was on 18.8% - down 2.7 percentage points - while Chris Hipkins was on 17.1%, down 1.9 percentage points.

Winston Peters was on 12.8% (up 1.2 percentage points), Chlöe Swarbrick gained 2.7 points to 8.1%, and David Seymour was up 2.4 points to 6.3%.
