Greymouth police station to close amid mould
Friday, 5 April 2024
Greymouth police are looking for a new home following a decisionto close the station due to ongoing mould issues.
A spokesperson said the Greymouth station had been experiencing some issues with mould due to water ingress but remained open to the public.
The station was closed in October for air quality testing, and it was reopened shortly afterwards.
The spokesperson said regular treatment and testing had continued to ensure the safety of both police staff and public using the building.
“A decision has now been made to transfer staff at Greymouth Station into alternate accommodation as soon as practically possible,” he said.
“New Zealand Police are committed to ensuring the safety of our staff and the communities we serve.”
Police were currently exploring longer term solutions to address the situation.
“Due to the environment in Greymouth, there are some challenges in what is available and it may take some time before we have a more permanent solution,” he said.
The move would not impact the core policing service to the Greymouth community.
“We’d like to thank our staff and the community for their patience during this time and we hope to have more of an update in the coming weeks.”
