Christchurch wine bar judged among world’s best

A Christchurch bar has been named among the best in the world at a prestigious industry event in New York.

The Cellar Door in the Arts Centre won a “best of” award of excellence at the Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards held recently, an honour given to establishments with well-curated wine lists.

It is the first time Cellar Door director and founder Tim Ogle has entered the competition. Only one other restaurant in the country has received the award - The Rees Hotel in Queenstown, which has received it for a number of years.

“We are really so stoked to get an award from Wine Spectator, let alone to make the ‘best of’ list,” Ogle said.

Awards are given across three categories including award of excellence, “best of” award of excellence and grand award.

The Cellar Door was among 1531 establishments worldwide to receive the “best of” award of Excellence.
