Roof cladding is under way and exterior cladding starts this week on Christchurch’s stadium, in another milestone for the project.

One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha is on track to open in April 2026, with its presence already a fixture of the city’s skyline.

The cladding installation will start on the south stand, along Tuam St, with the last sheets going on the north stand in mid-2025.

Work by local visual artist and graphic designer Morgan Darlison (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Porou, Tainui) will adorn the façade. The designs are inspired by hammerhead sharks and the creation story of Tāne.

Meanwhile, the fit-out inside the stands is progressing and painting crews have started on the final coat of steelwork paint.

The stadium is being built at a cost of $683m, funded by the city council and the Crown. It will have 25,000 permanent seats, with capacity for 5000 more to be added during large events.
