Huge recruitment drive to staff central Christchurch Parakiore sports centre
Thursday, 20 February 2025
About 200 jobs, from fitness and swimming instructors to events planners, will be advertised later this month to recruit staff for Christchurch’s Parakiore sports centre.
The city council is holding its largest ever recruitment drive to fill positions at the aquatic and indoor sports facility, opening later this year.
At 32,000m², the Moorhouse Ave centre will be the largest facility of its kind in New Zealand.
It will have multi-purpose indoor courts, swimming pools, hydroslides, an aquatic sensory space, a gym, movement studios, and group fitness rooms.
Nigel Cox, the council’s head of recreation, sports and events, said recruitment would take place from June to August.
Roles will be both part time and full time positions.
“We’re looking for great people to help us create an amazing environment at this world class facility,” Cox said.
“We’re looking for people to work in events, facility management, and customer experience. We’re also looking for fitness instructors, swimming instructors, lifeguards, aquatic sensory staff – and more.
“It’s going to be a vibrant and diverse place to work, with special events and activities happening alongside our regular offerings like swimming lessons and social sports leagues.”
The first information session will be held at Tūranga on March 5 from 4pm to 6pm, with a second in June, when the bulk of roles will be advertised.
Parakiore will play host to the 2025 Special Olympics National Summer Games in December.
Roles will be advertised at www.cccjobs.co.nz.
