A bankruptcy application for a former All Black has been pushed out a month so he can continue to discuss payment terms.

Christchurch law firm Saunders Robinson Brown has applied to bankrupt Andrew Mehrtens in the High Court at Christchurch.

Mehrtens scored 994 points for the All Blacks during a 12-year-career beginning in 1995, before transitioning to public speaking and financial services roles.

On Thursday morning, Associate Judge Dale Lester adjourned the bankruptcy proceedings to July 2, “for discussion of payment terms to continue”.

Appearances for both parties were excused.

The application had already been adjourned from a fortnight ago, Stuff reported at the time.

On social media platform LinkedIn, Mehrtens described himself as “committed to driving growth and fostering an environment that values ambition, integrity and excellence”.

“My passion for business and skill in story-telling have allowed me to cultivate a robust global network across both English-speaking and Francophone regions,” his description said.

“I bring a wealth of expertise in leading teams and achieving success in high-performance environments.”

Mehrtens was a much-loved player for the Crusaders and All Blacks, winning five Super Rugby titles.

“New Zealand rugby has had few players who has won such wide popularity and affection as Andrew Mehrtens,” according to the website allblacks.com.

“There was never much doubt that Mehrtens belonged among the elite of New Zealand first fives.”
