Monday, 23 October 2023

Hamiltonians are heading back to the polls now that councillor Ryan Hamilton has become an MP.

The National Party candidate won the Hamilton East electorate and has formally resigned from his role as an East Ward councillor.

Anyone who wants to take his place canto throw their hat in the ring from late November, and voting will happen in January and February 2024.

Ryan Hamilton had held his council role since 2018, having been elected in the by-election that followed the death of councillor Philip Yeung.

Hamilton took leave from his council role for his campaign to become an MP.

Mayor Paula Southgate said he will be missed at council but will be a strong voice for Hamilton in the capital.

Now that Ryan Hamilton is the MP for Hamilton East, someone will need to fill his place at Hamilton City Council.
