Macy Gray, Devilskin book shows at Hamilton venues

Waikato music lovers have a few more dates to add into their calendars, with two chart-topping acts announcing shows in Hamilton.
Grammy Award-winning R&B musician Macy Gray will perform at The Factory on October 16 as part of a six-date New Zealand tour.
Gray has no shortage of fans in this country. Her 1999 single I Try, went straight to number one in New Zealand and Australia, with the album On How Life Is spending 44 weeks in the NZ Albums Chart.
In 2001 she won the Grammy for best female pop vocal, and she was also nominated in the song of the year and album of the year categories.
While New Zealand was among the first countries to embrace Gray, she has now sold more than 25 million records worldwide, won two Brit Awards, and produced 10 studio albums.
As well as the Hamilton show, Gray also has dates in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and at the Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival in Napier, and the Tauranga Arts Festival.
“The band and I have always had a ball in New Zealand and we can’t wait to see you all again,” said Gray in the tour announcement.
“This time, I’m heading to places I’ve never been before and will get to see much more of your beautiful country.
“We’re going to be performing all the songs you want to hear, plus a few from my new album – The Trouble With The Truth. New Zealand and Australia will be the first audiences to hear tracks from the new album live so get your dancing shoes ready and come along and party with us.”
Tickets for all shows will go on sale on Thursday at 9am via macygraylive.com.au.
Meanwhile, premier hard rock act Devilskin have booked a show for Saturday, August 1 at their home city’s premier venue - the BNZ Theatre.
That show is part of a nationwide tour to mark the 10th anniversary of the group’s sophomore album, Be Like the River.
Released on November 11, 2016, that album peaked at #1 on the NZ charts, as did it’s predecessor, 2014’s We Rise.
That achievement was repeated last year with the group’s latest album, Re-Evolution - a feat matched by only two other New Zealand artists, Lorde and Marlon Williams - and acknowledged with a special award at last week’s Aotearoa Music Awards.
The group’s lead singer, Jennie Skulander, has also shared that she’s recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her jaw.
Tickets to Devilskin’s BNZ Theatre show are available via ticketmaster.co.nz.
