Crews battle Raglan house fire
Fire crews in Raglan battled a house fire on Monday morning.
Crews from Raglan, Ngāruawāhia and Te Ākau were called to the an approximately 100sqm house fire around 6.10am.
FENZ shift manager Ryan Dawson said the callout follows “multiple 111 calls” about the fire.
The house was “well-ablaze” when crews arrived at 6.25am and the fire was “under control” by 6.50am.
“At this stage, it’s not being treated as suspicious,” Dawson said.
Dawson said a Hamilton fire crew headed out to relieve the volunteer brigades while a fire investigator was en-route to the scene.
Youths arrested over Tūrangi vehicle thefts
Four people, including two youths, were arrested after what police say was an “extraordinary amount” of vehicles stolen in Tūrangi.
Some 35 vehicles were stolen in Tūrangi over recent months.
Detective Sergeant Craig Dalton said the thefts are a huge number for a small town.
Two youths were arrested, with Dalton saying the youths were “known Mongrel Mob associates”.
Police also arrested two men over other offending, with one a patched member and the other an associate.
“We also located and seized a firearm, air rifles and cannabis growing equipment.”
A 15-year-old will appear in Taupō Youth Court on Wednesday on 11 vehicle theft related charges while 13-year-old has been referred to Youth Aid.
A 38-year-old man has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, while a 40-year-old has been charged with contravening a protection order.
Police aren't ruling out further arrests.
“We know vehicle theft is an incredibly frustrating crime for our community, so I am pleased we are able to hold these alleged offenders to account.
“I hope these arrests reassure the community that police take this type of offending seriously,” Dalton said.
