Kinleith crash
One person was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Kinleith.
Emergency services were called to the crash on Kauri Rd about 3.40pm on Wednesday, police said.
“One person has suffered serious injuries.”
The crash happened between Waikato and Peach roads and motorists are asked to expect delays and avoid the area where possible.
Tokoroa training hub
Tokoroa has been identified as a training hub for the University of Waikato’s medical school, according to the Raukawa Settlement Trust.
Under the proposed model, students would complete their first year in Hamilton before doing clinical placements throughout the country, with a focus on rural and primary care.
University Vice-Chancellor Neil Quigley flagged the South Waikato town as one of four training hubs for the medical school.
Raukawa chief executive Maria Te Kanawa said it represents a significant opportunity for South Waikato and will improve access to healthcare for people.
“Rural communities across Aotearoa continue to face challenges attracting and retaining doctors, particularly general practitioners. This initiative creates an opportunity to introduce future doctors to our district, our people and our way of life.”
Raukawa chair Kataraina Hodge said they hope some of the students return to the area after they graduate and “build their careers here”.
